Leap day!

I present to you a totally original sketch. No one else could ever have thought of this one. Certainly no one else could draw it this, um.... So, it has come to this.

Voting prayer

Our Father for our leaders we pray
Grant them wisdom and charity and truth
As many of us think of them today
As we sit or stand in the voting booth
Bless our house

Make our leaders strong and right
Compassionate to the lowest of us all
Grant them peace when things get tight
And patience to hear the smallest's call
Meek as a mouse

God bless,

Brethren, there is hope

Tyrants seek control of what is real
Scrooges swindle people out of a deal
Addicts are wrecks who abuse both drugs and sex
Brats who need attention seeking office or detention
We who murder, we who steal

Is it our loss?
To avoid the cross?
Sin is within
Our cuts from lack of guts
A rock lacking moss

To be able to stand with integrity
Instead of living sleepily
Receive Love from above
A must to trust
In the One Who Is most definitely

God bless,

Blueprint

What shall we despise?
The malicious and the false
The oppression now

How should we conduct?
Satisfy the afflicted
Food for the hungry

What do we receive?
The delight of the Most High
Light in the darkness

Ashes

Ashes to dust, dust to ashes
A man was given vicious lashes
From his back his blood poured on the earth

Ashes given fasting starts
Gloom falls down on our hearts
Causing questions about our very worth

The Bridegroom is no longer here
The world is full of ancient fear
And every treasure box is filled with dearth

Until the son of man shall come
When light over dark has fully won
And every mouth is filled with endless mirth

God bless,

St. Polycarp

And Jesus said "Polycarp, I choose you!"

And the Romans tied him to a pole and burned him, but it wasn't very effective. So they stabbed him, dead.

St. Polycarp, pray for us (and forgive me for being somewhat irreverent)

May God bless,

Ash Wednesday.

Happy Anniversary to me! Self congratulatory, I know. I decided that since I started this blog on Ash Wednesday, that its anniversary should be Ash Wednesday. So there.

My posting schedule will be daily, as part of my Lenten practice this year.

Prepare for Lent! LINKS!

Alrighty! Lent is coming!

Here's something special this year for us, we can consecrate it to Mary. And if we need technology to help us do that there's an app for that.

Also for Lent, I will be doing a daily posting, which means that I'll be posting something at least once a day. Even Sundays.

Two days..!

God bless

Bell

Of this good sir I ask to tell
Of the ringing of the bell
Curious am I and curiouser still
Of that metal giant's great strong trill

It does speak, good sir and friend
Of both beginning and of end
Of both the birth of a poor child
And the death of a man both meek and wild

In the beginning was His word
At the end is the Lord
That great bell does sing so sweet
Of where the beams of a cross did meet

God bless,

Surrender and Death

Take up your cross
Daily loss of life
Take up His works
By faith work through strife

If we die should we live
If we surrender should we give

Take up His laws
Give glory and laud
Take up your cross
And walk to God

Die you shall, if with Him you'll live
Surrender all you shall, in order to give

A place with Jesus Christ, the Son
To Love and serve the Holy One
Who beckons now, for you to come

God bless,

Haiku-ified readings

First Reading - James 1: 1-11
If lacking wisdom
Ask the generous giver
Have faith without doubt

Psalm - Psalm 119: 67, 68, 71, 72, 75, 76
Wretched and in pain
Good and Loving One, be kind
Teach me your statutes

Pharisaical
Needing a sign to believe
None would be given

Sixth Sunday

Walking down this road
The horizon brown
Walking down this road
With my head held down

Shuffling my feet
Clip-clop then slide
shuffling my feet
longing for a ride

My last words were
and my next will be
a shout of despair
"Unclean! Unclean!"

Walking down this road
On my face a frown
Walking down this road
My soul slipping down

Shuffling my feet
'Til again I hear
Shuffling my feet
A man walking here

I look up to see
soul-piercing eyes
I Fall down to his feet
With begging cries

With a smile he touched
And I heard him say
You are healed my friend
Tell no one of this day

Running up the road
With a happy sigh
Shouting from my soul
Praises of the Most High

God bless,

Broken thoughts

Tapped out
Breathing light
Silent shout
Against what's right
Better think
About my plight
Despair I drink
On dragon's wings
Why I flee
From king of kings
Cannot see
The word He sings

Breathe in
Rhythmic light
Silenced din
Skyless flight
Sorrowful pain
Climbed toward height
Warmthless rain
Peaceful time
Crossed your 't'
Spoken rhyme
Bloodred sea
Truthless crime

Father's home
Loving tome

P. S. The Congregation for the Causes of Saints decided to give a positive recommendation to the Pope on Bishop Baraga's heroic virtue. Which means that if all goes well he will be declared Venerable.

Snowshoe Priest

An actual post on something, cool. Bishop Baraga, aka the 'snowshoe priest', was the first bishop in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

His cause for heroic virtue (the step before beatifying) is being pleaded for tomorrow (is pleaded the right verb?).

From Bishop Sample's (Bishop of Marquette) fan page (if you aren't his fan you should be) on Facebook
Now it's time to ask for you prayers and sacrifices for a very important intention. As I mentioned before, the Cause for Bishop Baraga takes a big step on February 7 (see post from Nov. 25). I am asking for your prayers and asking specifically that Feb. 6 be a day of prayer and fasting for a successful declaration of Bishop Baraga's heroic virtue in Rome. JUST AS IMPORTANT, we need prayers and sacrifices for the miracle under investigation in Rome. We need this for beatification. The documentation has been prepared for the miracle to be studied in Rome. PLEASE pray for a successful outcome. We need Bishop Baraga's beatification for the New Evangelization!

Political Dreariness

There was a brief government spike
that told the Church 'Go take a hike
The conscience of men
Is for sale again
And you'd better on Facebook click like'!

There was young man in the States
Who got tired of political baits
'If there is one thing I despise
it's blood money with lies
And parties of good old mates'

Yeah, I know, limericks are supposed to be funny, but so should be politics. I'm tired of bullshit, if I weren't Catholic there are a few conspiracies I'd like to try out. But I'm Catholic, and they break the Law, so I'll write them in a dimestore novel instead. And pray for a miracle.

Despite my weariness,
May God bless,

Just under the wire

Not quite late, need to work harder...

The flight of a bird, absurd not serious
Lends itself grace, in a place not imperious
Lands in a nest, best made for eggs
On its two legs

The growth of tree, you see in it a nest
Towards the sun, how fun is this eternal quest
Drawing strength from roots, its shoots in the earth
Giving life birth

The solid ground found in it a hole
Through this hollow, please follow in stroll
A bunny, how funny who seems to be late
A curiouser fate

God bless,

Some haikus, late

I am so sorry
For forgetting to post this
Yesterday. Forgive?

Regrettable doom
Leads to dark thoughts and feelings
But sun will still rise

In void emptiness
A voice speaks one word and then
No longer lonely

Helplessness is I
As frustrated you may be
I will help you child

I will post again
Tomorrow, may God bless,
Chi Rho, Joshua
