Squirrel!

Is meditation to close my mind
Shut it down, let it open wide
Focus it or broaden it
Clean or cluttered inside
Oh wait.
Stop this train of thought
I was supposed to meditate
My derailing has been caught

Unreflection

Unwhole and unwell is the man who
Sticks his finger in a socket to
Get shocked and then again
Does it until the end

Unsound and unwise is the mind which
Explains this as a natural twitch
Thereby good, trusted, and must
Be encouraged until we are dust

And these un-voices in my
Heads invariably lie
Their dark barks
From the original black marks
In front of Him, fade and die

Who is God?

Who is God? Who is like Him?
Boundless and undivided
Who is Truth? Who is Beauty?
Over what has He not presided?
And what am I? Just a mangy dog
Not fit to eat the food of a hog

Who is God? This King of Heaven?
With majesty beyond my gaze
Who is Love? Who is Peace?
Who pulled me from my sinful daze?
And what am I? Just a lowly slave
Whose dust will sprinkle another's grave

And yet, amazing all who hear, He dies
To grant a choice for me to rise
A thread in His tapestry
A glimmer in His majesty

Time

That relentless beat, indomitable act
Crushing force, and imperative pact
The fearless foe that holds us fast
That blessed gift that has us vexed
The movement of one moment to the next
Joy lasts but a moment, but it does last

Good Evening

In the purview of the sun
All is drenched in light
And where the rain is having fun
Making things aright
Children laugh and angels play
Praising with their might
What a glorious day
Thank you and good night

Insomnia

With wooden sheets and stone-stuffed pillows
There is no way to weep with willows
Instead my eyes bore in the ceiling tiles
Holes with designs of various styles
My mind in panic for some rest
While entertaining this impish pest

Diligence!

Diligence! Diligence! Divine discipline!
Keep awake, and keep alert
Malfeasance! Malevolence! Murder and malediction
Prowl about for prey
So pray!
Strive to walk the narrow way!
Surrender to God's mission
Brethren
Diligence! Diligence! Divine discipline!

Nattering Nonsense

What is palatable to barbarians?
What is pricey to monks?
What is peachy to morticians?
What is peaceful to punks?
A safe space to the bubble boy
Where secret kings can set their ploy
A den to thieves and killers
That demons may enjoy.

Daydreams

Alight on bubbles, bubbles of light
Spheres so fragile, so short a flight
Yet eliciting simple delight
Leisurely sighing

Jagged as lightning, sparks hither and yon
Briefly lighting what they hap upon
Then on to the next, then again are gone
Busily flying

Knowledge of Evil

Its roundness is delightful
Its redness is divine
Its sweetness is quite frightful
This apple that is mine
(And it is indeed mine
Mine! Mine, my apple!)
I think I'll no longer grapple
With the blood fruit of the vine

But then once more I taste
And my soul becomes a waste

God is Family

And what, dear father, can you
Ask of me that I've not done
Move a mountain, save the earth
Raise a family, increase my worth?
Then to ask me not to follow the Son
That I cannot do

And what, dear mother, could it be
That you might once more ask of me?
Pray to God, care for my brood
Listen true, and calm my mood?
But to ask to not follow the Son
That cannot be done

Loyalty to God is first
And though it may bring pain to burst
I will choose his side so fast
If such a line is drawn at last

Stargazing

Smiling stars sing their light
As pinpoints, jots in the night
From the Wright's desk specks that fell
As I gaze I'm feeling slight
But still I look and hear their swell

Blinding Vice

Drained, bombarded by excess
Wanting more by receiving less
Were I more detached from this all
I might more clearly hear your call

First World Courage

Let the dragon roar
The troll find a bridge
The raven seek out gore
I will not move a smidge
Not a wit
Not a drop
Not a bit
So just stop
For I will watch just one more
TV episode about hot porridge

Ability to Wait

How do you wait in hope, in fear
For an unknown man to come by here
To bring you to an unremembered home?
How can a blind man roam?

How can you wait with hope and grit
For someone to pull you from the pit?
How is it done in patience or joy?
What strategy do you employ?

How do you wait and be prepared
With happiness you have gladly shared?
How can you sing a tune with glee
While waiting patiently?

Whiny

I have a complaint today, good sir
And this is my complaint
I would like to complain, good sir
Without the least restraint
Complain about bullfrogs making noise
Complain about dogs and chew toys
Complain about leaders losing poise
Because this here is the thing, good sir
I am not a saint

Riddle in Rhyme

I breathe and have a nose
But do not have a face
My value simply grows
Year by year in pace
Spitting me are those
Called Lord and Liege and Grace
Yet I give blissful throes
That no poet would abase
What am I?

The answer for those that are not sure (and even for those that are)

God bless,

Silly Melancholy

Silly strings cover things in chaotic ways
Valley voles are very cold in the winter days
Budding boughs caked in crows high above my head
Lilting lies and pudding pies sending me to bed
Once more I dream sputtering steam of days that ne'er were
And up in a home I'd never grown like the one my heart longs for

God bless,
