Small House

A small house with a single room
To cook and sleep and pray
As quiet as a Christian's tomb
Yet filled with joy today
And everyday through eternity
When I return from the fray
To the little house filled with glee
To cook and sleep and pray

Crooked Path

Blessed is the crooked path, that shreds my feet and tears my knees
So I might seek out the narrow path, one that heads straight for peace
Blessed is the foolish pride, that blinds my eyes to traps and falls
So I might hark to the quiet voice, and humbly listen when He calls

Detached

Can one be serious and have fun?
Sincerely dance under the sun?
Laugh and cry, write and paint
Can one truly be a saint?

Cold

There are things I do not miss
Do not want and have no wish
To do again or experience with
The time I have left within the myth
One such thing is that myst
Of dull sense, a cold that twists
Joy to sleep but I may still list
Good fruits from illness such as this
But still those colds, I do not miss

Snake Oil Salesman

Even the strongest grows weary
Even the stoic is teary
And the gullible leery
When Snake Oil Salesman comes round
He'll make some soup out of a stone
Or bottle some moonlight unshone
Or sell his old dog his old bone
So run away when you have him found

Light

What is our light? A candle? A sacred flame?
And in the night does it illumine His name?
Where is it placed? On a hill? Under stone?
Do we show it to all or leave it all alone?
What is our light? Is it pure? Is it twisted?
Does it go out straight? Or has it listed?
What is its fuel? His wisdom or ours?
Do we make it shine? Or leave it to His powers?
What is our light? When will we escape the night?

Dishonesty

How awful it is to believe a lie
How much it is to tell it
How crazed it is to live in a delusion
And be unable to fell it

What Makes One?

Passed the point of pickling
Preserved beyond a sickening
Amount of time has strayed the soul
From what makes one whole

Shadow bashes shallow slashes
Letting legions of tongue lashes
Stripping down the dignity
Stealing what makes one free

Prepared a part of paradox
Carried current at the Crux
Lifting up and lifting out
With love that makes one devout

Seekers that Seek

Seekers that seek nothing are dead
What I have learned from lying in bed
In the dark, there still is light to seek
Adventures and mysteries given a peek
Seekers that seek truth are meek
Allowing their heads to be lopped by the same
Blade as the one that sharpens their name
Or pierces the bleakened souls so weak
And bolsters the humble with what it has said
Seekers that seek nothing are dead

Peace

I knew war and was in disarray
I was turmoil itself and in constant battle
Too busy to breathe, too distracted to pray
Too easy to lead astray like cattle
Too unsettled to stay in one place
Too deaf to listen, too proud to kneel
But then I knelt, bowed my heart, lowered my face
And was lifted to share in a meal
I knew war, but peace entered this space
I had known the word but had not understood
Peace is busier than war
But a business that is lively, wholesome, and good
Shaking me unto my core
By this I know your presence
By this I seek your essence

Yet illuminating all

At Least it's Fun to Say

A fletcher and a hunter
A tanner and a punter
A sailor with his gunter
Mowing down the lawn
Cutting blades with blades
Starting from the dawn
Until they all get blunter
In the evening shades
Then they all are gone

Hope

I sit and wait to know, unwary
Of ordinary and extraordinary
Of colors, lights and joyful sounds
Abounds and from death unbounds

Flow of Death

Flow of death to change the fate
Of all mankind, don't hesitate
To be reborn, to repent and live
All life, all you have, and more to give

The Only Gold

The only gold I have to give
The only wealth that matters to thee
Is the virtue with which I live
It is poor but I give it free

The only room I have free
For thee to stay in, Lord
To receive my epiphany
Is in my heart filled with thy sward

Wind

Caves can block the wind
Of Midwinter's fury
But the cold still settles in
Until my breath and soul is blurry

Attending

Attentive is the vassal who
Would give his time and thoughts to do
What any vassal should
Kneel and pray that his love grew

If the attending vassal stood
'Twould only be for His Lord's good
'Twould be for glory willed
As much as what the vassal could

While the vassal kneels he's filled
With adoration so much that's stilled
His heart that is made new
For with his liege he has been killed

Sweet Milk and Bitter Water

Sweet milk and bitter water
Warm honey and stale bread
Fine silk and homespun cotton
Royal's purple and martyr's red
