Pouring out one's soul until dry
In service to the unworthy and disgraced
By being lifted up on a cross, high
Calling home all who are displaced
Calling home all who are displaced
When little, the leaves become a bed
A bit older, upon new leaves are tread
Soon enough the thought the leaves are dead
Left unsaid
But ere when judged and stories pled
Leaves once more become a bed
Festered rot left under moss
Hard wind and rain shows the loss
Crumble, tumble, slide, and fall
The fate of the mighty standing tall
Earth collapses and the waters dry
Remember, mortal, you too shall die
In this world, that by God's grace
I'm not of, there's a phrase
That all good things will end
But in this ending, at this place
I'm standing in God's gaze
And that will never end
Simple counting, simple composing
Simple lining, humbly closing
A simple construction on a simple rock
Far sturdier than any complex clock
Ending the day with a simple breath
Simply born twice, with only one death
Sour wines drown dirty water
Fill the mind with obscure litter
Leave a soul dusty and bitter
Lady Wisdom, no one sought her
To seek a path to endure winter
Other than the perverted vintner
A word can shape the world at large
Twist the shadows and call the charge
A line can separate man from death
The hero's quip to the villain's last breath
A shade or highlight can show us more
Through responsible power. Excelsior!
Under a field of violet petals
Noble yields
Humility settles
Integrity beckons for rest and for work
Diligence warns not to shirk
In prayer for the fruits of the land
In peace in the palm of His hand
Gripped in the terror of casts and cats
Driven upward toward the belfry of bats
But the bats taken care of by the feline paws
Allow the bell peals to settle the laws
The greatest forces the shadows sent
Twisting light, vision bent
On destroying those who grow and thrive
Yet to day I'm still alive
Still upright, singing with joy and peace
The sun may set, but does not cease
The pretty light, set above to guide
Takes all my strength not to hide
And keep around for another day
Or never again in its presence abide
Instead I'll kneel under it and pray
A family with a tendency
To pray for us and keep us free
Our family from up above
Filled toward us with heavenly love
The family of saints we pray
Will include us one day
