A While in Space

A while in space is long and thin
As the stars shine light without
And the distance has the clout
To knock you on the chin

The great though measurable size of things
That go in circles as they run
It does seem like so much fun
To skate on Saturn’s rings

And a journey of such mystic sense
Reaching the ends of the universe
Studying that entropic curse
As we sleep so, under tents

Weak Riddle

One whose legs are weak is pushed
And is glad, though he is bushed
Him I had as he sat in the corridor
Of white while antiseptic smells
Through night until the vigils’ bells
You need no more, to find what am I
Your mind apply

Noble Elements

Noble fire of the stars
Guiding us from afar
Graceful water of death and life
Dancing to the magic fife
Divine air that liberty sings
And with a bell lets freedom ring
Humble dirt, lowly clay
Who formed the Son of God one day

When my God teaches light
Purge that which does not do right
Burn my soul, mighty quick

And respite from dragon gave

Invisible

If invisible the cause and invisible the effect
And finite are the powers at our call and beck
Can we know for sure what has happened then?
How much can we gather about what was done and been?

If invisible the spirit with no weight or vector
How much can we know by experiment and lecture?
Poor mortals such as we have no means to know
Save by faith in the grace of reason He bestowed

One Man Walking Down a Road

One man walking down a road
Saw another with heavy load
Condemned the man with burden great
And continued with a light stepped gait

A man was walking down the road
With greying hair, had gotten old
He still had a lively step and pose
As he continued condemning those

An older man was walking by
Hair of white and burden high
Pretending to step as light and free
As he used to pretend to be

Streamlined Riddle

Weightless are my scales
Silver-lined my tails
And though
The dead go
With the flow
I shall go upstream
To fulfill my dream
What am I?

String and Cast

String up your rod and place the worm
Avoid the hook and cast out firm
Now you must wait and wait and wait
For a fish to taste the bait

Patience advises the old man smiling
A calm heart does more beguiling
Than all the energy of youth and vigor
You need the passion of self-disciplined rigor

And while we wait on waters edge
For the fish to make a pledge
We keep our suffering calmly pent
Patience at one hundred percent

Have you ever ever seen?

Have you ever ever seen a farmer planting seeds
After digging furrows and ridding all the weeds?
Have you ever seen a farmer doing these humble deeds?
Then you may know
How God might sow

Have you ever ever seen a farmer praying for rain
Or walking slowly across his irrigated plain
Or working day to day to forget his aching pain?
Then you may know
How God might sow

Though we have seen this world as a walking path
Choking on our vices or snatched by demons’ wrath
He showers out his grace, drowns us in such a bath
Because He knows
Our highs and lows

Surrounded by the dirt and leaves
That covers those that have been

Pelt and pall, the kingly drift
Rock and wave, the lunar shift
Smoke and soot, floating hearse
Lilting light, the sirens’ verse

Naiads dance the king to sleep
Wine is poured for those who weep
Praises sung of victories past
With painful cheer do memories last

Why my King?

Why, my King, do I disobey?
Why do I not give every breath to pray?
Why does my love for you not dry my tears?
These are my fears

My faith, O King, is weaker than Peter’s
My hope guides me but millimeters
My love is even darker than dim
Can I even let you in?

So, I ask, again, my Lord, my King
Creator and Sustainer of everything
Father, Son, Spirit, three in one
Please guide this feckless son
