Betrayal Haikus

Summer heat of pain
Great loss with a winter chill
Scars of betrayal

Now known to myself
How might God feel from each sin
I have committed

A Great Trek

A ray of light shivers through
A greatly empty space
A ray of warmth and clarity
On a great trek, a race
Ending up reflecting off
This dear child's face
Whose laughter of delight, of joy
Lightens up the place

Majesty

Out of a discerning mind
A single word that shakes my bones
My tongue is speechless, my body bows
My soul, alit, is still as a tree
To hear those tones
For eternity

Focus

Do things that matter matter at all?
Compared with the First, just pale and pall
Deaf and mute to my furtive call
Yet yelling to wreck my path and stall

O! That I might look at the cross
O! That I might walk down His road
For eternity, eternity and my focus never at loss
O! that I might help with His load
For eternity, eternity list'ning to His heart
And never ever to part

Is It a Name?

Is it a name that gives a voice
To hopes and dreams and choice?
Is it a wonder in the sky
That lights the pathway nigh?

Hotel of Babel

I entered a lobby, bright sparkles abound
And asked the attendant where hope could be found
'Not here' he said and pointed to a door
'Those stairs will take you to where hope was before'
So up to the first floor, and I asked a maid
If hope in which room hope had stayed
'Hope wasn't here, maybe another floor?'
Up and up I went, and searched more and more
On to the tenth, the hundredth, and going
My fervor and zeal with no signs of slowing
Yet though I sought in every room under every table
I could not find hope in the Hotel of Babel

Mountains and Sand

Mountains, mountains, piling
And the shadow is smiling
The valley is least beguiling
When the rain is gone

Sand, the sand is gathering
And the crowd is blathering
Amid the painful slathering
The devil hasn't won

Mass

A simple building made of wood
A single steeple with a single bell
Gives rest to weary folk and peace
Within an oasis from a worldly hell

A simple meal made of simple gifts
A single loaf and a single cup
Satiates the starving souls who eat
Down comes the Spirit who lifts us up

Come Sail Away

There's little in the tree for me
And yet in shade I rest
Little in the world for me
Except a tiring test
So out onto the great blue sea
I diligently sail
Away from the world's dismal sea
And its malicious gale

Quiet

Emptiness, a hunger, a fear
A need for sound, for noise
A void, opaque, unclear
That strips life of all its joys

Solitude sates, makes full
A living, breathing peace
A lens with focused role
That grows and will not cease

Nightly Seas

Ripples on the surface
Bubbles in the tea
The world atop a carapace
With a leaky sea
On a journey 'neath the stars
Trouble in the deep
A ship with harried tars
Guides me in my sleep

Yourself

My Lord, with vulnerability I cannot show
You give yourself, lower yourself, die yourself
For our mistakes. Though it's our refusal to grow
Closer to you, you persistently love us yourself

Tear down my resistance that I might be so bold
As to reveal myself before any and all as yours
Steady my back, though I shiver 'gainst the worldly cold
I might be honored and graced to be like you who is yours

Light in Warming Gaze Above

Light in warming gaze above
Feet in constant beat below
Underneath a cross of love
Is an eternal peaceful flow

Build a Wall!

Lets add another wall, another wall, wall, wall
Just between ourselves and the world
And in case I should trip and fall, fall, fall
There's another wall around me curled

This wall made of glass, only pierced by light
That's redirected to a silver film and caught
A wall that alas, cuts me off in a night
Cages me to rot, rot, rot

Only by myself, madness freely spikes
Bouncing off the inside of my wall
And I madly seek the likes, likes, likes
The echo causing peak, peak, peak, and stall

Stone walls do not a prison make I hear
But a camera's glass imprisons me in fear

Buoyed

Amid silence or within squalls
All is about You
A sunrise bursts whilst a seagull calls
A sign of what is True

Tower

Painted metal towering high
In a place desolate of life
Its lines lead up into the sky
Striking wonder and fear to the voice
"Ten, nine, eight..." intoned
Cutting silence like a knife
Each number a step, a choice
"seven, six, five..." is groaned
Heartbeats match each numbered sigh
"four, three, two," then "one"
Every number tensely cried
At "zero" the highest, we've begun
To go down the playground slide

Renew the Face of the Earth

A seed of a grapefruit
Swallowed whole
Starts to sprout
Starts to grow
Even in the deleterious acid of the belly
God can sow

An abandoned cart
Rusted and old
Can be used again
Can be used to hold
The possessions of an abandoned woman
With a heart of gold

Sand tarries
Yet still falls
Age steady
Death calls
But the Man on the Tree flips the story
Breaking walls

God bless,

Dewy Rosy Sunny Mornings

Dewy rosy sunny mornings
Set to the chirps of restless birds
Is both refreshing and annoying
Life is full of interesting words
