Merry, merry, quite contrary

Merry, merry, quite contrary
To the melancholy I enjoy
Gay dance and laughter truly carry
A frivolity so unwary
Of despairing demonic ploy
(Which has its own dangers I'm sure)
I may forget by grace's employ
A minute's reprieve with sadness's cure
I, like Cinderella, mustn't tarry
Of basking in a brown-eyed joy
That angelically merry Mary

God bless,
