Pride and Pain

With great pride I raise my head
Lower my eyes, smirk instead
Of laugh. My innocence tossed
Consumed by darkness, my soul is lost
My freedom paid by God's own blood
Lies there sullied, covered in mud
My pride refuses to bend the knee
Yet my heart wavers and begs of Thee
To grant the grace and humble hope
To fall with Thee on Calvary's slope
For my soul to rise, my pride to fall
To embrace the cross, and heed the call

God bless,
